Controversy and the Hindujas, it seems, have become synonymous with each other. Four members of the billionaire family have been convicted by a Swiss court for ill-treating their employees.
Earlier, the family was fighting with each other over the assets, with the daughters of SP Hinduja deciding to split from the family. SP Hinduja’s will is under probate.
The family gained notoriety after their name came out in the open as a beneficiary of the commission in the Indian government’s purchase of the Bofors gun. After several decades of investigation and court cases, the Hindujas received a court reprieve.
The Prakash Hinduja family is planning to appeal the Swiss court order in a higher court in Switzerland.
In India, the group is in the midst of acquiring Reliance Capital, a bankrupt firm earlier owned by Anil Ambani.
