Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (PPL), incorporated in 1981, is one of India’s largest phosphatic fertiliser companies, with an annual capacity of 3.7 million mt across Paradeep (Odisha), Goa and Mangalore (Karnataka). The company produces urea as well as DAP and NPK grades of fertiliser. It markets them under the ‘Jai Kisaan Navratna’ and ‘Jai Kisaan Mangala’ brands. PPL serves over 12 million farmers through 100,000+ retailers across 18 states in India, supported by strong backward integration, a robust logistics network and ESG-driven growth.
In Q1FY27, revenue from operations increased 36% yoy to Rs 6,124 crore, EBITDA rose 24% yoy to Rs 764 crore, PBT increased 24% yoy to Rs 526 crore and PAT stood at Rs 393 crore, up 24% yoy. Sales volume grew by 4% to 9.85 lmt (lakh metric tonnes). During FY 26, the company achieved operational revenues of Rs 21,826 crore, up 29% from Rs 16,920 crore in the previous year. EBITDA of Rs 2,259 crore was up by 33%, whereas PBT and PAT were at Rs 1,328 crore (up 46% yoy) and Rs 1,000 crore (up 52% yoy) respectively.
Despite the prevailing global uncertainties owing to the Middle East conflict, which have resulted in a sharp escalation and volatility in raw material prices, PPL has delivered a good Q1FY27 performance. As a result, the company has been able to strengthen its leadership position further in phosphatic fertilisers.
N Suresh Krishnan, Managing Director & CEO
Commenting on the company’s performance, N Suresh Krishnan, Managing Director & CEO, said, “PPL has once again demonstrated strong operational and financial performance for Q1FY27, reflecting the strength of our integrated operations and our agility in navigating global volatility. We have been able to run our plants efficiently in Q1FY27, and have been able to manage sourcing of key raw materials in a competitive manner.”
He added, “Our key project of phosphoric acid expansion (phase 1) from 500,000 mtpa to 700,000 mtpa at Paradeep is on track.” This backward integration project is a part of the company’s Rs 3,700 crore capital investment programme, aimed at reducing import dependence in phosphoric acid and improving operating margins. The project is targeted for completion around September this year. A parallel scaling up of sulphuric acid capacity from 1.4 mmtpa to 2 mmtpa is also in progress, with an aim to safeguard captive raw material inputs.
In terms of volumes, IFFCO has the largest installed capacity of 8,75,000 mtpa in the country for the manufacture of phosphoric acid. PPL will be the second largest after commencing its phase 1 expansion to 7,00,000 mtpa, whereas Coromandel International of the Murugappa group is the third largest player with 4,60,000 mtpa.
On the issue of diversification, Mr Krishnan said, “The company’s board, in its Q1FY27 results meeting, has approved the investment proposal of Rs 250 crore for setting up an aluminium fluoride (AlF3) plant at Paradeep. This aligns with the company’s strategic objective to enter and diversify in the related industrial chemicals space, and will build and strengthen our non-subsidy portfolio in due course. It also reinforces our manufacturing capability by having a by-product converted into value-added products. These investments in speciality/industrial chemicals will further augment the company’s endeavour to create long-term value for our shareholders.”
He added, “Looking ahead, we believe global uncertainties will prevail; hence, we remain committed to driving growth in this challenging time through focused and agile operational discipline.”
